Panaji: Senior corporator Vasant Agshikar on Tuesday called upon the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) to implement swift measures to restore and repair wells in the city which were allegedly contaminated by sewage line leakages.
“As we know, PWD water resources are limited and considering that redevelopment of many societies is on the cards in Panaji, I request you to take up the repair, rejuvenation, and revival of wells in my ward and Panaji,” stated Agshikar, who was also the former deputy mayor, in his letter to mayor Rohit Monserrate.
While Panaji has numerous wells that serve as valuable water resources, these require proper maintenance, restoration, and revival as several were affected by contamination from sewer lines, he said. The corporator added that there are 15 wells in his ward itself located in and around housing societies along Dr Atmaram Borkar and Dr Dada Vaidya roads require urgent attention. A senior CCP official said that the corporation would look into the demands made by Agshikar and implement essential measures to safeguard the wells.
