Jaipur: School education department on Tuesday issued an order that set a deadline of Dec 23 for recently promoted teachers to join their new postings and inform the department of it.
If the teachers fail to do so, the department will be free to issue orders of promotion being forsaken, states the order issued by Sita Ram Jat, director for elementary education.
In the department, 10,515 teachers were recently promoted, but about 3,000 teachers of these are eligible for multiple posts due to experience and educational qualifications.
On Tuesday, the govt school teachers' association wrote to the education department seeking clarity on the selection of teachers for multiple posts in promotions done recently. Teachers also said that direct promotions should be done for teachers of subjects like Commerce, Home Science, Painting, and Music.
Vipin Prakash Sharma, president of Rajasthan Primary and Secondary Teachers Association, said, "Many senior teachers who are postgraduates in more than one subject were selected as lecturers in three or two subjects. Even though the DPC (departmental promotion committee) was done on time, students will not be able to get the full number of lecturers as teachers have not joined till now."
Mahendra Pandey, chief general secretary of the association, said a memorandum was given to the education secretary with the demand that all candidates selected for lecturer posts should be made to join at their respective postings, so that there is clarity about the number of posts that remain vacant.
Teachers suggested that a review and revision list be prepared so that postings can be given from this list if posts remains vacant.
"This will help in filling vacant posts and will benefit classroom teaching. Also, if a teacher forgoes a promotion, then it should be applied to the subject and not to the post," said Pandey.
