Hyderabad: Dismissing reports that the Congress govt is planning to reorganise districts, revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Tuesday stated that the govt intends to address shortcomings in the district reorganisation implemented by the former BRS administration, which led to significant administrative challenges.
"There will be no alterations to the existing 33 districts, 76 revenue divisions, and 661 mandals," he stated in response to a question during the question hour in the assembly.
Srinivas Reddy indicated that the govt has proposed the creation of 11 new revenue divisions, with preliminary notifications issued for four of them. Collectors from six districts have been asked to submit proposals for new revenue divisions, and a proposal already received was currently under review.
He alleged that the BRS govt undertook the reorganisation of districts without conducting a feasibility study, resulting in a disjointed arrangement of mandals and revenue divisions. "For example, the Yellandu revenue division spans four constituencies, while several other divisions extend across multiple constituencies. This hindered MLAs in certain constituencies from effectively engaging with the relevant officials to facilitate development projects," he said.
The BRS govt, he noted, established two new revenue divisions and 31 mandals two years ago without providing the necessary offices and staff.
