Chandigarh: As support and concern for the health of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, whose fast unto death has entered its 22nd day, continue to grow among farmers, khaps, and social groups in Haryana, chief minister Nayab Singh Saini, on Tuesday accused Congress and AAP leaders of politicising the farmers’ issue.
Saini was interacting with mediapersons after attending the release ceremony of vultures at the Vulture Breeding and Conservation Park in Pinjore, Panchkula. He reacted when his attention was drawn to the appeal made by farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher.
“Haryana is procuring 100% of the crops of farmers on MSP. And the vegetable-growing farmers were compensated for price differences,” said Saini.
The CM intensified his attack on the Congress party and former CM Bhupinder Hooda while referring to Vinesh Phogat’s visit to Pandher and the statements made by her. “Politics is being done in the name of farmers today. Vinesh Phogat should explain why the Swaminathan Commission report was not implemented during former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s tenure,” said Saini.
“Bhupinder Singh Hooda was the chairman, and a committee was formed, but its report was thrown in the dustbin,” he said. Saini said Congress alog with the AAP was politicising farmer issues. He asked his Punjab counterpart to follow the Haryana model in procuring all the crops of farmers on MSP.
