Kanpur: In a first, the Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) technology will be used in road construction in Kanpur to enhance their quality and durability. The Public Works Department (PWD) will use this technology to construct a road in Kanpur city and then in Auraiya district.
The department has conducted a survey and finalised the roads for this project. The busy route from Chaubepur to Bandimata will be widened to four lanes and a proposal for the project has been approved by the govt. According to department officials, road on 9.2-km stretch from Chaubeypur to Bandimata will be constructed and widened at a cost of Rs 16.68 crore. The road from Nabipur to Gajner will be widened over a 3.6-kilometre stretch, with a cost of Rs 42.48 crore.
Chief Engineer of the PWD Ravidatt Kumar stated that the approval was received for the construction of both the routes. "A company has been assigned the task for the construction, and work will commence soon on both the routes. This will be the first time that roads in Kanpur will be built using FDR technology," said Kumar further. About the technology, the officials said that the FDR technology enables road upgradation by utilising materials from existing roads, including gravel. The construction process involves combining cement and additives using specialised machinery imported from Japan and the Netherlands, followed by the application of a chemical layer.
This technique, widely implemented in international road construction projects, offers enhanced durability. The roads built using FDR technology last for ten years, which is double the lifespan of conventionally constructed roads that typically last for five years.
