VARANASI: After enjoying a luxurious stay and meals from breakfast till dinner at Hotel Taj Ganges for four days, a man fled without paying a bill of Rs 2.04 lakh in November.
ACP Cantt Vidush Saxena on Tuesday said that on the complaint of the hotel manager, an FIR under section 318(4) (cheating and fraud) was lodged against Sarthak Sanjay of Keonjhar in Odisha with Cantt police station on Monday evening. Police teams were engaged to search for Sarthak, he added.
As per the complaint given to the police by the hotel manager, on November 14, Sarthak booked a luxurious suite at the opulent hotel and stayed for four days.
He provided his Aadhaar card as identification and enjoyed all hotel amenities, including meals.
On November 18, when the hotel staff inquired about the period of his stay, Sarthak mentioned he would check out by evening. When the staff insisted on a checkout by 11 am, he expressed displeasure and agreed to leave by 3 pm, asking not to include the next day in the bill.
After this, Sarthak ordered a cab, claiming he was going out for sightseeing and left. When he didn't return by 3 pm on November 18, the hotel staff began calling him.
However, both numbers provided by Sarthak were found unreachable. When he did not return by 5 pm, the hotel staff alerted the general manager.
After waiting a day, they notified management and opened his room, finding only some clothes. After completing internal formalities, the hotel filed the complaint with CCTV footage and other documents related to his stay.
