Kolkata: The investigating officer of CBI in the RG Kar Hospital rape-murder case, Seema Pahuja, appeared before the district court at Sealdah on Monday as the last witness in connection to the charge sheet filed by the agency. So far, 50 witnesses have appeared in court since the trial started on Nov 11.
Pahuja, additional superintendent of police, was part of the team that investigated the 2020 Hathras rape-murder and the 2017 Unnao rape case. The CBI, in its charge sheet, has named Sanjay Roy as the prime suspect. It has also named former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh and former Talla PS OC Abhijit Mandal as accused who harboured Roy. It also alleged that the duo was involved in the larger conspiracy of destruction of evidence.
Pahuja, during her two-and-a-half-hour-long deposition, informed about the case, witnesses gathered, process of reconstruction of the incident, forensic reports pointing at the accused, and CCTV footage analysed. Roy's lawyer, Sourav Bandyopadhyay, on Monday started to cross-examine the officer based on the statements of the accused persons and witnesses in the case. Pahuja will appear before the court on Tuesday.
