Jaipur: A businessman in Jaipur and a jeweller in Jhunjhunu reported receiving extortion calls from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in two separate incidents.
Lokendra Singh, a businessman who runs mining and hotel businesses in Jaipur, filed an FIR with the Cyber Police Station in Jaipur on Dec 14, stating that the gang demanded extortion of Rs 5 crore from him. Singh said two FIRs were filed against him by his business partners at the Shyam Nagar police station over a dispute.
Singh alleged that he began receiving multiple threatening calls from international mobile numbers, with the callers demanding payment for "damages." One caller, identifying himself as Ashish Bishnoi from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, reportedly warned Singh that if he wanted his family to remain safe, he needed to arrange Rs 5 crore.
In a separate incident in Jhunjhunu, a jeweller alleged that he received an extortion call demanding Rs 5 lakh from a caller who claimed to be from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The jeweller received the threat on WhatsApp from an international number, with the caller warning, "Pay the money, or you will be shot." The caller also provided a bank account number where the money was to be deposited.
Station House Officer (SHO) Abhilasha said the jeweller reported receiving the WhatsApp call at 8 AM on Dec 1. The caller said, "Don't you read messages?" before disconnecting. Upon reviewing the message, the jeweller found a threatening note stating, "Deposit Rs 5 lakh within three days, or you will be shot." The message also included a bank account number. Shortly after, another message warned, "Your business won't survive." When the jeweller attempted to call back on WhatsApp, the response was a cryptic text message reading "00."
Following these threats, the jeweller filed a complaint at Mukundgarh police station on the night of December 13. Both cases are now under investigation.
