Chandigarh: Haryana’s director general of police (DGP), Shatrujeet Kapoor, on Sunday convened a meeting with senior officials to discuss the effective implementation of three new laws, strategies to control violent crime, and initiatives to promote a drug-free environment. Necessary guidelines were provided during the meeting, which saw participation from senior officials and police superintendents across the state via video conferencing.
Reviewing the efforts towards making the state drug-free, the DGP said making Haryana drug-free is a major priority for the police. While commendable work is being done, more structured efforts are essential to completely eradicate drug use. He emphasised the importance of educating people about the harmful effects of drugs and cracking down on traffickers.
He instructed police superintendents to take strict action against drug sellers and ensure action against pharmacists selling prohibited drugs, adopting a zero-tolerance policy. He also suggested holding meetings with drug sellers to inform them about legal provisions .
