Nagpur: Congress' Maharashtra in-charge Ramesh Chennithala will hold a special meeting with party legislators in Nagpur on December 17, according to Congress state president Nana Patole. During this meeting the party's leader in the assembly will also be picked.
The meeting is primarily to review Congress' performance in the recently concluded polls and for this Chennithala will speak with not only elected MLAs but also MLCs and the party candidates who lost. Congress fought just over 100 seats but managed to win just 16, its worst performance till date.
While there was no official word on it, sources say this meeting is a result of Patole offering to resign given the poll debacle. TOI had reported how many leaders had been gunning for Patole, with senior leader Vijay Wadettiwar being the most vocal of the lot. Party sources also said that some senior party leaders who lost the polls have now blamed Patole's leadership style.
Wadettiwar said on Saturday that it is normal for state leadership to get the credit for victory. "Similarly, the responsibility of loss should also be his," said Wadettiwar.
