A 57-year-old farmer, Ranjodh Singh, from Ratanheri village, attempted suicide at the Shambhu border on Saturday. Distressed by the deteriorating health of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dhalewal, who is on a hunger strike, Ranjodh consumed Sulphas. His son, Sukhdeep Singh, reported his father is currently in the ICU and his condition appears stable.

LUDHIANA: A villager from Ratanheri village in Khanna allegedly tried to commit suicide after he swallowed Sulphas at Shambhu border on Saturday. As per the son of the villager, he couldn’t see the condition of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dhalewal, who is on fast in support of farmers demands, and consumed the Sulphas. The villager was identified as around 57 years old Ranjodh Singh.
As per reports, Ranjodh has an elderly mother Tej Kaur, son Sukhdeep Singh, wife Kuldeep Kaur and father Meva Singh.
Sukhdeep Singh, son of Ranjodh Singh, said that his father was at the protest site and he told them that Bapu JI (Jagjit Singh Dhalewal) is unwell so he couldn’t see his condition and consumed Sulphas. He added that he did talk to his father and is in ICU and his condition seems fine.
Ranjodh’s son said that they don’t own land and his father had stayed at Dharna about a year ago continuously and had remained there for around ten days ago and after six days ago he gone again. He suggested that they must have some debt.
Ranjodh's mother Tej Kaur said that on December 8 her son went to Shambhu border and acknowledged that they do have debt.
