BKU leader Gurnam Singh Charuni urges Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) to form a joint committee to escalate the farmers' protest for MSP and other demands nationwide. Charuni's appeal follows a visit to Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is on a hunger strike at the Khanauri border. While separate groups currently lead the protests, Charuni emphasizes unity and a national strategy.
Form joint committee to support take ongoing farmers' protest at country level: Charuni to SKM
KURUKSHETRA: A day after meeting farm leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, sitting on fast-unto-death protest at Khanauri border of Punjab-Haryana, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Charuni national president Gurnam Singh Charuni has written an open letter to members of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), to form a joint committee to take forward the farmers’ protest at the country level.
Adopting a separate strategy from SKM, that spearheaded the year-long 2020 farmers’ protest at Delhi border, SKM Non Political and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) are presently leading the ongoing farmers’ protest at Shambhu and Khanauri borders of Haryana from Punjab side. Their main demand is law guaranteeing minimum support price (MSP) and others. The farm bodies associated with SKM have not participated in the ongoing protest led by SKM NP and KMM.
Amid such a situation, Gurnam Singh Charuni, who remained part of SKM during 2020 farmers’ protest, has written an open letter to SKM.
Addressing members of SKM, Charuni wrote, “As you are aware that two forums are conducting Andolan at Haryana Punjab borders for the remaining demands of 2020 farmers’ protest including the minimum support price (MSP). In the ongoing Andolan, the health of Jagjit Singh Dallewal is in very critical condition.”
“Seeing the present situation of the ongoing protest at the border, we all shall reconsider to come on one platform with unity and take forward this protest to the country level by forming a joint committee, so that the demands of farmers are accepted. We request to call a joint meeting at the earliest, so that the future course of action and strategy of this Andolan can be discussed”, said Charuni.
SKM NP leader Sarvan Singh Pandher said, “It is good if Gurnam Singh Charuni has written to SKM and we have no problem with that.”
