Rajkot: A 47-year-old driver was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping his 12-year-old daughter between Feb 2023 and Feb 2024 in Jamkhambhaliya taluka of Devbhumi Dwarka district.
The man was arrested on Sunday based on a complaint filed by the 42-year-old aunt of the victim with Jamkhambhaliya police station on Dec 11. The accused was charged with rape, sexual assault, and under the Pocso Act.
According to the police complaint, the girl was residing with her aunt for the last 10 months. Initially, her father placed her at her uncle's residence. As she was not comfortable there, her father relocated her to her aunt's house in the village.
Police said that the girl's mother was facing severe mental health issues, and the accused exploited this. The victim has two other siblings — an elder brother and a younger sister. Police said that the accused allegedly assaulted his minor daughter when his son was not present. However, he committed the crime despite the presence of his wife and younger daughter. Upon learning of the incidents, the girl confided in her aunt, who subsequently alerted the police.
Police inspector BJ Sarvaiya of Jamkhambhaliya police station confirmed that the accused, who earns his livelihood as a freelance driver, was apprehended on Sunday. The authorities plan to present him before the court while continuing the investigation to collect additional evidence.
