Panaji: GFP president Vijai Sardesai on Sunday alleged that govt had ‘wilfully not provided specific definition for the term “land grabbing”’, which, he said hampered the inquiry commission, headed by Justice V K Jadhav (retd), and watered-down its findings. “This significant failure was mentioned by the commission itself which implies attempts to scuttle the inquiry from the word go,” Sardesai said, pointing to the commission’s report.
He accused govt of shielding the real culprits. He said that the commission pointed this out in its report. Sardesai in a tweet, quoted the commission’s observations on how individuals with key roles in the crime have acted “cleverly behind the curtain”, using others “as mere pawns” to orchestrate illegal land transfers with forged documents. “This scam is not just about stolen land; it’s about stealing Goa itself from Goans,” he said, adding that a nexus of powerful individuals was behind the illegalities and demanded immediate action to prosecute those named or implicated. He warned of exposing those involved in the “massive scam” if govt failed to act.
