Mysuru: What's in a name? A fight between a couple leading to near-divorce, court intervention and a consensus name that's accepted by the baby's parents in presence of four judges and other judicial officers. And a picture-perfect happy reunion with the couple exchanging garlands and leaving a bitter three-year fight behind.
After their baby was born in 2021, the couple from Hunsur in Mysuru district fought over the choice of name. The new mother started calling the baby ‘Adi', a name that was not formally registered with any government agency. The husband, who never met his wife after she announced pregnancy and even after the birth of the baby, didn't agree with the suggestion. He wanted a name reflecting god ‘Shani'.
With the couple failing to strike a middle path for nearly two years, the wife moved court seeking maintenance under Section 125 of CrPC. At this point, assistant public prosecutor Sowmya MN said they made several suggestions that would appeal to the couple, who finally agreed on the name ‘Aryavardhana' chosen by court.
At the VIII additional district and sessions court in Hunsur of the district on Saturday, the judges, assistant public prosecutor, and advocates gave the child, now three years old, a consensus name. Following the naming of the child, the couple buried differences, exchanged garlands and distributed sweets, according to Hunsur Taluk Bar Association president S Shivanne Gowda.
The couple agreed on the name in the presence of VIII additional district judge H Govindaiah, senior principal judge Zaibunnisa, additional civil judge (senior division) Anita, additional civil judge (junior division) and presiding officer Puja Belikeri, bar association vice-president C Harish Kumar, and secretary HJ Sandeep.
