Ranchi: State govt's road construction department (RCD) has chalked out plans for commissioning another flyover in Ranchi. The new project, its officials said, has been envisaged to further ease the commuting woes in the state capital. The department has given the green light for the construction of a 1.25 km flyover for which the land acquisition is yet to begin. It will connect the recently opened Kantatoli flyover and the under construction Siromtoli-Mecon Chowk elevated road-cum-flyover projects.
Officials said the project would bring in a unique element into the city's flyover network. "It has been designed in such a way that vehicles bound for Booty More from Doranda will not have to get off Siromtoli flyover to ascend to Kantatoli flyover. Instead, the vehicles will be brought into Kantatoli flyover through an adjacent lane built parallel to Kantatoli flyover," an official told TOI, requesting anonymity.
The project's cost has been pegged at Rs 124 crore. It's design, a copy of which has been seen by TOI, envisages that two two-lanes will run parallel to Siromtoli and Kantatoli flyovers between Patel Chowk and Bahu Bazar Chowk. Vehicles coming to Kantatoli flyover, instead of descending from Siromtoli flyover at Siromtoli Chowk, will run parallel in the new flyover which will then merge above Balaji Petrol Pump in Bahu Bazar Chowk. "Vehicle bound for Doranda, instead of descending from Kantatoli Chowk at Siromtoli Chowk, will be able to take the parallel lanes that will merge with Siromtoli-Mecon flyover which will merge over Patel Chowk," an official told TOI. The existing approach road to the Kantatoli flyover near Yogada Satsang Ashram will remain open, allowing Ranchi railway station bound vehicles to bank left from Siromtoli Chowk from under the proposed flyover. Sujata Chowk bound vehicles will also be able to turn right from Siromtoli Chowk.
"Land identification process for acquisition will begin in the coming weeks," a senior official in the RCD's Ranchi circle said. However, executive engineer of RCD Ranchi Ram Badan Singh, chief executive engineer Sunil Kujur and RCD secretary Sunil Kumar did not respond to TOI's calls when contacted.
