Several Delhi schools received a bomb threat via email on Monday, the fourth such incident in 10 days. Police, including bomb squads and dog units, responded and searched the schools. Previous hoax threats targeted dozens of schools, with one demanding a ransom. All threats were deemed hoaxes after thorough investigations.
NEW DELHI: Multiple schools in the city received a bomb threat via email on Monday, marking the fourth such incident within 10 days. Police sources said that the email was sent around 1.10 am. The threatening mail was addressed to Delhi Public School in R K Puram, Delhi Public School in Vasant Kunj, Amity International School, Gyan Bharti School in Saket, Ryan International School in Vasant Kunj, along with others.
The Delhi Police launched a security operation across affected schools, deploying bomb disposal squads, dog units, multiple fire tenders, and ambulances on standby. Security personnel conducted thorough sweeps of the premises, with sniffer dogs searching classrooms, corridors, and open areas. Bomb detection and disposal squad personnel used specialised equipment to scan for potential explosive devices while local police managed crowds of concerned parents.
Previous incidents include that of Saturday wherein at least six schools, including DPS RK Puram, received bomb threats that were later declared hoaxes.
On December 13, around 30 private schools received bomb threat emails that were later declared hoaxes. The threatening email warned of potential explosions on December 13 and 14, claiming that "there are many explosives in your school premises" powerful enough to "destroy the buildings and harm people." The message allegedly came from "a secret dark web group" that cited vulnerabilities in school security, particularly the "similar start to end school timings" and inadequate checking of students' bags at entry points.
Another similar occurrence was on December 9 when 44 schools received hoax bomb threats. In this mail, the anonymous sender demanded $30,000, claiming multiple explosive devices were planted within school premises. The email stated, "Multiple bombs have been planted inside the building. They are small and well-hidden. While building damage will be minimal, the detonation will cause significant injuries. If the ransom of $30,000 is not paid, the devices will be detonated."
