HYDERABAD: Three persons allegedly involved in the illegal transportation and sale of poppy straw were arrested by Rachakonda police at Meerpet.
Police said that Rajasthan residents Mangilal Bishnoi, Mangi Lal, Bhira Ram, Shaker Lal, Shravan, and Mohan Singh of Madhya Pradesh formed a gang for the sale of poppy straw. Among them, Bishnoi, Mangi Lal, and Ram were arrested, and 53 kgs of poppy straw was seized from them.
"Due to financial problems, they decided to earn easy money by selling narcotic drugs. They came into contact with one drug peddler, Mohan. They started purchasing poppy straw at a cheaper rate from Mohan and transporting it to Hyderabad through public transportation vehicles, selling it to needy customers in and around Hyderabad city for a huge price," Rachakonda Commissioner Sudheer Babu said.
Bishnoi is a previous offender who was involved in a case of violation of the NDPS Act registered by Hayathnagar police, who seized heroin from him. The three accused were caught at Meerpet.
