Haryana minister Anil Vij took swift action during a public grievance camp in Ambala, suspending an official for delaying disability pension. He reprimanded several departments for negligence and delayed public works, demanding immediate action. Vij addressed complaints about unpaid sanitation workers and showroom employees, ordering investigations and contractor action.
Vij recommends suspension, reprimands irrigation department for delay in development works
AMBALA: Haryana's energy, transport and labour minister Anil Vij on Monday ordered the suspension of Avtar Singh, an investigator of the social justice and empowerment department for delay and negligence in granting pension to a disabled person by not verifying the date of birth even in 14 days.
Anil Vij resumed his Janta Camp at the PWD Rest House in Ambala Cantonment on Monday, where he listened to the grievances of the general public. A large number of people visit the minister’s camp with their complaints.
Anil Vij also reprimanded the executive engineer of the irrigation and water resources department for delaying the development works and directed them to start the works without delay. The minister also seemed unhappy with the functioning of the electricity, municipal council and police department and directed them to take immediate action on the related complaints.
Anil Vij heard hundreds of complaints during the Janta Camp and in a strict tone, he instructed the officials that these complaints should be resolved before his next camp, otherwise, he would take strict action against the concerned officials.
A specially-abled person told the minister that he had earlier visited his camp on December 2, but still, his pension has not been awarded by the social justice and empowerment department. Angered by this, Vij ordered the suspension of the department's investigator Avtar Singh on the spot.
Residents of Khojkipur and Rampur Sarsehri areas told about the problem regarding the Cause-way, Tangri bridge and concreting of a drain in Maheshnagar area, on which, Vij sought information about tenders from the engineer of the irrigation department and reprimanded for the delay.
Vij also received complaints that the sanitation workers were not getting salaries for the last three months.
The workers said that they work for a door-to-door contractor, but they did not get salary for three months. Vij instructed the officials of the labour department to investigate the matter and take action against the contractor.
A youth working at a shop in Ambala city said that he has been working at the showroom for one and a half years, but he has not been paid his salary. In this case also, he directed the labour department to take strict action.
Similarly, in different cases related to the police, Vij constituted an SIT under the chairmanship of IGP Ambala and directed for investigation.
Ambala ADC Brahmjit Singh, DSP Suresh, and officers of various departments were present during Vij’s Janta Camp.
