Mangaluru: Additional district and sessions court - FTSC-II (Pocso) judge Maanu KS convicted five persons from a family to one year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a total fine of Rs 35,000.
The accused, Mahammad Imtiyaz, 29, from Montepadav, Ullal, Abdul Khader, 41, from Farangipete, Bantwal, Ramlath, 43, from Ramalkatte, Bantwal, KI Mohammed and Maimunna from Montepadav, were convicted under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.
According to special public prosecutor K Badrinath Nairy, the convict Mahammad Imtiyaz married a 17-year-old girl on May 31, 2023, with the support of both families. The marriage reception was held on June 1 at a hall in Kairangala of Ullal. Following this, a case was booked against five persons at Women police station under Section 6 of the Pocso Act and Sections 9, 10, and 11 of the prohibition of Child Marriage Act.
Inspector Rajendra B conducted an investigation and filed the chargesheet. The court examined 10 witnesses and marked 22 documents.
