Begusarai: Three days after an 18-year-old driver was reported to be shot after being called outside home in Makdampur village under Mansoorchak police station area on Thursday, Begusarai police on Sunday claimed that Ravi Kumar had died by suicide.
Teghra subdivisional police officer (SDPO) Ravindra Mohan Prasad said that Ravi shot himself dead. "He was under a bout of depression, which was confirmed by his kin during police interrogation. He even broke his cellphone before shooting himself dead," he said.
Earlier during police investigation, Ravi's maternal uncle Amit Choudhary had said that someone shot him dead after calling him out of the house.
The SDPO said that Choudhary had even thrown the pistol, used by Ravi to kill himself, in a ditch near his house. "However, subsequent police investigation revealed that it was not a case of murder but suicide. Choudhary confessed having thrown the pistol into the ditch during police interrogation. We have lodged a case against him for concealment of evidence and misleading the police," said the SDPO, adding that the country-made pistol, used by Ravi to kill himself, had also been recovered.
Police said he committed suicide owing to a failed affair with a girl.
Ravi used to live with his maternal grandparents in Makdampur village.
Ravi's mother Sudha Devi had even lodged a murder case with the Mansoorchak police after the incident.
