Begusarai: Three days after an 18-year-old driver was reported to be shot after being called outside his house at Makdampur village under Mansoorchak police station area in Begusarai district on Thursday, police on Sunday claimed that Ravi Kumar had died by suicide.
Teghra SDPO Ravindra Mohan Prasad said Ravi had shot himself dead. "He was under a bout of depression, which was confirmed by his kin, during police interrogation. He even broke his cellphone before shooting himself dead," he said.
Earlier, during a police investigation, Ravi's maternal uncle Amit Choudhary had claimed that someone had shot him after calling him out of the house.
The SDPO said Choudhary had even thrown the pistol, used by Ravi to kill himself, in a ditch near his house. "However, police investigation revealed that it was not a case of murder but suicide. Choudhary confessed to having thrown the pistol into the ditch. We have lodged a case against him for concealment of evidence and misleading the police," said the SDPO, adding that the country-made pistol, used by Ravi to kill himself, has also been recovered.
Police said Ravi, who used to live with his maternal grandparents in Makdampur village, committed suicide owing to a failed affair with a girl.
Ravi's mother Sudha Devi had even lodged a murder case with the Mansoorchak police station after the incident.
