Varanasi: The Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), BHU inaugurated two new public utility services at its trauma center on Friday.
The event was attended by District Magistrate S. Rajalingam, Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari, Annapurna Temple's Mahant Shankar Puri, and IMS-BHU Director Dr. Sankhwar.
The trauma centre, one of the largest Level-1 trauma centres in India, boasts 354 beds and serves as a critical healthcare provider in North India.
According to Prof. Saurabh Singh, professor-in-charge, the centre recorded 2,35,956 outpatient visits, admitted 13,092 patients, and performed surgeries on 17,722 patients in 2023. Over 1,700 patients benefited from the Ayushman Bharat scheme during the same year. The new facilities include a patient kitchen and dietary services as well as Ayush Vatika.
The patient kitchen and dietary services aim to provide nutritious and hygienic meals to patients admitted to the trauma centre. All admitted patients will now receive three free meals daily, delivered directly to their location. The Ayush Vatika, on the other hand, offers a sustainable and eco-friendly space for patient attendants to relax and reduce stress.
The inauguration of these facilities is expected to enhance the overall experience of patients and their attendants at the trauma centre.
