Aizawl: Mizoram govt is yet to commence the collection of biometric data and undertake biometric enrolment of over 33,000 refugees from Myanmar taking shelter in the state even as the Centre fixed the deadline till Dec this year.
A senior state home dept official Sunday said the MHA extended the deadline for conducting biometric enrolment of Myanmar refugees till Dec due to a number of reasons, including state and Lok Sabha polls. "At present, we do not know when we will commence the exercise," he said.
He said the biometric enrolment portal being developed by the MHA is not applicable to the Myanmar refugees in Mizoram as the portal deals with those refugees who are to be deported to their native country. Union home minister Amit Shah made a commitment to CM Lalduhoma that the refugees will not be pushed back until and unless peace is completely restored in the civil-war hit neighbouring country.
