Varanasi: Ghazipur unit of the Central Bureau of Narcotics raided a general merchant shop in the Seer Govardhan area under Lanka police station on Saturday evening and arrested its owner following recovery of 1.01 kg of restricted drugs like buprenorphine, valued at over Rs 1 crore.
Providing details of the action on Sunday, CBN said they had received inputs regarding trade of restricted drugs, following which, narcotics commissioner Dinesh Bouddh, deputy commissioner Praveen Kumar Bali and assistant commissioner Anil Kumar Vishwakarma formed a team. Following verification of inputs by the superintendent, the CBN sleuths raided Khushi general store in Seer Govardhan area. The shop's owner, Ram Babu, was arrested following recovery of a consignment of 1.01 kg drugs like buprenorphine. Officials estimated the cost of the seized drugs at over Rs 1 crore.
Buprenorphine is a painkiller and is a scheduled drug listed as a ‘psychotropic substance' under the NDPS Act, hence, its manufacture, distribution, sale and consumption are controlled.
