Social media was abuzz with rumors of his passing, but his nephew clarified that Hussain is alive, though in serious condition, requesting prayers for his recovery. The renowned musician has been receiving treatment for over a week.
Ustad Zakir Hussain, tabla player extraordinaire, has been admitted to a San Francisco hospital in the USA in “a serious condition”, it was learnt on Sunday. Even as millions of fans prayed across the world for the recovery of the 73-yearold ustad of percussion, social media was abuzz with rumours of his passing away late in the night.
Among those who posted tributes on X were top politicians, industrialists, sportspersons and film personalities. However, his nephew Ameer Aulia later posted from an unverified handle that the maestro was “very much alive”. “I am Zakir Hussain (sic) nephew and he has not passed away. We ask for prayers for my uncle’s health. Can you please remove this misinformation. He is in a serious condition and we ask for all his fans around the world to pray for his health,” he posted.
