Bengaluru: Chief minister Siddaramaiah on Friday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on allegations of bribery against BJP state president BY Vijayendra in connection with waqf property encroachments. "Why is the BJP leadership shielding Vijayendra and others involved in the waqf property loot?" he said.
The CM also called for a CBI probe into the bribery allegations, saying, "The people of Karnataka deserve answers, not cover-ups. Modi's ‘Na khaunga, na khane doonga' promise has been reduced to mere rhetoric."
Participating in a debate on the waqf land issue in the assembly Friday, minister Priyank Kharge had alleged that Anwar Manippady, former chairman of the Minority Commission under the BJP govt, had accused Vijayendra of offering him ₹150 crore to suppress investigations into waqf property encroachments.
"From (MLA) Basangouda Patil Yatnal's claim that Vijayendra paid ₹2,000 crore to secure his father Yediyurappa's chief ministership to Covid procurement scams and now Waqf property loot—there is a clear pattern," he said.
