Ustad Zakir Hussain received recognition at a number of esteemed international award shows, and in 2023, the Indian government awarded him the Padma Vibhushan. His health suddenly declined recently leaving his fans concerned. The legend passed away, following his ill health as quoted by his close friend.
“He has been admitted to a hospital in San Francisco for a heart-related problem for the last week. He is unwell and admitted to the ICU right now. We all are worried about the situation,” Chaurasia stated in conversation with a media agency. Flautist Rakesh Chaurasia, a close friend of Zakir Hussain, revealed to PTI earlier today that the table master has apparently been hospitalized to a San Francisco hospital for heart-related issues.
The 73-year-old artist has apparently been experiencing problems with his blood pressure. His family then decided to have him treated for his severe medical conditions at the reputable hospital. However, India Today said that the musician died because neither the medical staff’s efforts nor the prayers of his millions of followers were successful.
Zakir Hussain, a multi-talented musician who worked as a composer, percussionist, music producer, and film actor, was born to tabla player Alla Rakha. Hussain took home the Grammy for Contemporary World Music Album at the 51st Grammy Awards in 2009. He received recognition for his album Global Drum Project, which he co-produced with Giovanni Hidalgo, Sikiru Adepoju, and Mickey Hart. Hussain took home three honors from the 66th Annual Grammy Awards on February 4, 2024.
Additionally, the best artist worked with American musician Mickey Hart on the Grammy-nominated world music CD Planet Drum. Zakir Hussain plays a tabla guru in the 2024 action thriller Monkey Man, which was produced and directed by Dev Patel in his first directing role.
