Jaipur: Minister of state for home, Jawahar Singh Bedham, on Thursday met with the widow of ASI Surendra Singh, who died when a car rammed into the convoy of chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma.
Singh was killed while performing his duties to protect the CM's convoy on Wednesday. Flanked by senior police officials, Bedham visited Singh's home in Neemrana and assured the family of all possible assistance.
Singh's widow, Savita, earlier expressed her displeasure over the CM not taking the time to meet the family, despite Singh's sacrifice in the line of duty. She hoped for recognition of her husband's efforts to protect the CM, which she felt was not duly acknowledged.
Bedham assured the family that the govt was committed to providing all necessary help to Singh's family.
Meanwhile, the police registered an FIR regarding the accident against the car driver, Pawan Kumar, who succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital in the city on Thursday. The FIR was filed by an inspector from the police lines.
According to the FIR, a team was posted for convoy duty for the CM's convoy, which was set to pass through the Akshya Patra junction between 3.10 and 3.15pm. The speeding car suddenly appeared and hurtled toward the convoy.
The FIR states that the accused was asked to stop by the traffic police team deployed at the scene, but the taxi driver did not stop and continued accelerating, mowing down ASI Surendra Singh and colliding with two police SUVs that were part of the CM's convoy, causing injuries to several police personnel.
The FIR was filed at the Ramnagariya police station on Wednesday under BNS Sections 281 (Rash driving or riding on a public way), 124 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 106 (Causing death by negligence).
