Udhagamandalam: More than 13,600kg of tea waste was seized from a truck from West Bengal, near Thudiyalur in Coimbatore district on Thursday night.
Officials of the Tea Board (south) seized the truck acting on a tip-off. The truck was brought to the buyer's location in Ooty. The consignment was later destroyed as per the Tea Act.
The Tea Board served a warning notice to the buyer of the tea waste, seeking an explanation within the given time limit.
In a press release, the board said it had sought the details of previous buying and sales of the tea waste by the buyer with relevant documents.
Action will be taken against the buyer after the receiving the explanations and relevant documents, the release added.
The board warned the truck owners and drivers against transporting tea waste without authorisation.
The board also warned that severe action will be taken against people procuring tea waste from other states.
