Koraput: Plan to build for a Rs 4,000-crore cement factory in Malkangiri district was announced by chief minister Mohan Majhi on Saturday, promising direct employment to around 2,000 educated youths. The announcement came during a comprehensive review meeting, marking a significant step toward industrial development in the Maoist-affected region.
The cement factory project coincides with efforts to include Malkangiri on India's railway map through the Jeypore-Malkangiri and Malkangiri-Pandurangapuram via Bhadrachalam rail line projects. "Land acquisition process is being prioritised to speed up these crucial connectivity projects," Majhi said.
The CM outlined several infrastructure initiatives, including the construction of national highways and rural development projects. Union govt has allocated Rs 19.78 crore for five high-level bridges and Rs 12.62 crore for four additional bridges to improve regional connectivity.
In the education sector, Majhi promised at least two teachers per school and announced plans to establish Godabarish model primary schools in every panchayat within three years. State govt is also implementing the Subhadra Yojana to promote women's self-reliance, with special focus on primitive tribes like Bonda and Didai, he said.
To ensure timely project completion, the revenue divisional commissioner (south) and district collector will conduct fortnightly reviews. "The district administration must prioritise and expedite all departmental activities," Majhi emphasised.
The review meeting was attended by school and mass education minister Nityananda Gond, Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi, and local MLAs, among others.
