Nagpur: The city police, gearing up for the winter assembly session next week, have also made elaborate arrangements for the medical requirements of its force which will be deployed for round-the-clock security.
Around 15 medical teams have been formed for emergency assistance and will be stationed at different locations. The 30 top hospitals empanelled in the state police health plan scheme have been alerted to remain ready for any emergencies.
The arrangements have been done considering past incidents when cops from outside Nagpur deployed for the winter session developed uneasiness on duty. There were also instances of deaths occurring among the cops during the winter session bandobast.
The chief medical officer of the police hospital at the headquarters, Dr Sandeep Shinde, stated each medical team would comprise a doctor, pharmacist, nurse and attendant. "Eight medical teams will attend the morcha points, four residential units will be deployed round-the-clock at the lodging places of top dignitaries, one will remain present at the control room, while two will manage the rush at the police hospital at the headquarters," said Dr Shinde.
Dr Shinde stated CP Ravinder Singal, Jt CP Nisar Tamboli, and DCP (Headquarters) Ashwini Patil guided in preparing a foolproof health safety blueprint for ground-level actions. "The police hospital will have a help desk round-the-clock. We have displayed the cellphone number of the hospital helpline and also my personal contact details at prominent places where the cops can note them," said Dr Shinde, adding he has urged cops to shun roadside food and drinking unsafe water.
Additional precautions would be taken to protect cops against the harsh weather conditions and chilly nights. "We have stocked up on flu, dengue, and malaria medicines in addition to those for cold, cough, and sore throat. We are advising cops to avoid oily food from unhygienic places. Oily food often leads to irritation in the throat," said Dr Shinde.
