Jhansi: Police on Saturday apprehended a man named Parvez from the Aligole area of the old city for his involvement in obstructing the police and NIA team members trying to arrest one Khalid Nadwi from his residence on Thursday for questioning regarding his alleged involvement in foreign funding in suspected terrorist activities.
Parvez was one of the 11 named accused who, along with 100 unidentified persons, was charged in this matter on Thursday night. SP City Gyanendra Kumar Singh said that more arrests would follow while the police are thoroughly analysing numerous video recordings from Thursday. Hundreds of men and women had blocked the NIA team and police, visibly obstructing them from taking Nadwi to the police station.
The crowd had escorted Nadwi to the nearby mosque and secured him inside. Subsequently, police had managed to extract him through the rear exit. The gathering was summoned promptly through an announcement from the mosque by the Qazi.
The NIA team searched the premises of Nadwi, an Islamic teacher who provides online Islamic instruction to students in India and abroad, on Thursday morning in connection with receiving foreign funding for conversion. The operation was part of nationwide raids across eight locations.
