Prayagraj: Amid the controversy over the use of the speech of Justice Shekhar Yadav in a programme organised by the legal wing of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, many advocate organisations and institutions of the high court have come out in his support.
In a meeting of Bhartiya Bhasha Abhiyan Kashi Prant, its national patron Ashok Mehta, who is also the additional advocate general, while defending Justice Shekhar, said that while explaining democracy in his speech, he said that majoritarianism rules in India and also emphasised on the implementation of Uniform Civil Code (UCC).
"He expressed his views in very civilised words and used the word ‘kathmulla' in a restrained manner.
It is not right for any civilised society to pick up a small part or word of his speech and create a ruckus for political gain", added Mehta.
Mehta said that any speech should be seen in its entirety and its meaning should not be distorted by breaking it into pieces. He added when the word ‘kathmulla' is searched in the parliamentary dictionary, we find that this word is not an indecent and unparliamentary word.
He said that Supreme Court Bar Association's president Kapil Sibal is unnecessarily making a small incident a big one. A similar attempt was made by Congress in the 60s against Justice JC Shah, former judge of India, and some time ago a similar attempt was made against former Chief Justice of India Deepak Mishra under the leadership of Sibal.
