Kanpur: A speeding UP State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus fatally knocked down a class 4 employee of the irrigation department in the Rawatpur area of the city on Friday morning. The man's helmet was completely shattered, and the bike was totally damaged in the incident.
After the accident, the bus driver fled the scene with the vehicle. Upon receiving the information, the police arrived, investigated the matter, and sent the body for post-mortem examination. The accident occurred near gate number three of CSA in the Rawatpur police station area.
Sumit Sonkar (52), a resident of Sharda Nagar, was an employee at the irrigation department located at the Ganga Barrage. His younger brother Sandeep said that, as usual, Sumit left for the office on his bike on Friday morning. As he reached gate number three of CSA, the bus ran over him.
Upon receiving information about the accident, Nawabganj station officer Dinanath Mishra said that an irrigation department employee riding a motorcycle died after being hit by a roadways bus. "A report has been filed against the bus driver based on the family's complaint," said Mishra further.
