Lucknow: Shia leader Maulana Kalbe Jawad Naqvi and Sunni Imam of Idgah, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali, have welcomed the Supreme Court's order to halt any further fresh suits or surveys of mosques across the country until the apex court decides on the plea against the Places of Worship Act.
"Adherence to the Places of Worship Act of 1991 remains paramount for maintaining law and order across India. This mandate applies to both subordinate courts and the Supreme Court. The Act pertains to all places of worship and requires universal respect and implementation. Without stringent adherence, the nation's circumstances cannot improve," said Jawad.
Similar sentiments were expressed by Mahali, who is also the chairperson of the Islamic Centre of India. He said, "Surveys of places of worship should cease, and the Supreme Court must ensure compliance with the Places of Worship Act. The apex court has ruled that no court shall entertain fresh cases related to this matter while the SC's final decision is pending, and no conclusive or interim orders concerning surveys shall be issued."
"Consequently, the concerns among citizens regarding survey directives for numerous mosques and shrines have eased. The SC's directives have instilled confidence among all, fostering optimism that the Supreme Court will further strengthen the Places of Worship Act in its final judgment. This legislation is crucial for maintaining indigenous cultural harmony and communal peace," he added.
