Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Police have arrested a man accused of sexually exploiting a 14-year-old domestic help, just hours after the complaint was filed.
Capital SP Rohit Rajbir Singh on Friday said the Itanagar Women police station (WPS) received a distressing complaint from an Assam native regarding his young relative, who had been working as a domestic help and allegedly suffered repeated sexual abuse by her employer.
The victim, a minor girl, managed to escape from her employer's residence two days prior to the complaint, after enduring alleged assaults by the employer's family members. Her rescue was facilitated by a compassionate citizen who noticed her distressed condition and alerted Childline and Child Welfare Committee (CWC) teams.
During her interaction with CWC, the victim revealed that she had been repeatedly raped by her employer during her stay at their residence.
Based on the complaint and victim's testimony, authorities registered a case invoking sections 65(1)/351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, read with Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
In an impressively quick response, a police team, led by inspector Nich Rupa and accompanied by constables Techi Mekap and J Norbu, along with a CRPF team supervised by Itanagar SDPO Kengo Dirchi, arrested the accused within four hours of the complaint.
The arrested individual, identified as Tapor Mara @ Dev Mara, is a driver from Yupia-III village. Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was employed by the accused in Sept 2024, shortly after the death of his wife.
Following his wife's death, the accused allegedly began sexually exploiting the young victim. On Dec 11, the minor fled the residence after enduring continuous assault, eventually being rescued by the Good Samaritan who helped connect her with child welfare authorities.
"The case remains under active investigation, with authorities committed to pursuing justice for the minor victim. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses," SP Singh said.
