Gaya: Gaya senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ashish Bharti has asked the officials concerned to ensure heightened surveillance of hotels and private houses in Bodh Gaya following a bomb threat to the Mahabodhi Mahavihara. Conducting a security review on Friday, the SSP instructed security personnel to improve mobile patrolling and quick response teams' efficiency. He also called for regular mock drills, repair and updating of CCTV cameras and ensuring emergency response teams are fully equipped and alert.
During the inspection, the SSP reviewed CCTV functionality, security deployment and emergency management plans. "Verification of hotels and private houses must be ensured to maintain strict vigilance over visitors, especially foreign nationals," he said. This measure also addresses concerns about non-submission of Form C for foreign visitors, despite prior instructions.
The review was conducted amid the ongoing tourist season, which sees a high influx of domestic and international visitors to Bodh Gaya. Devotees often stay in private houses, monasteries, hotels and guesthouses, increasing the need for proper security measures.
The recent bomb threat, made in the name of notorious gangster Prince Khan from Dhanbad, Jharkhand, prompted the action. Police investigations revealed that Khan's cellphone location was traced to Dubai, adding an international dimension to the case.
