Lucknow: Listing recent instances of artificial platelet producing unit in Prayagraj, spurious drug market flourishing in Agra and new medical college building on Kanpur-Prayagraj highway developing cracks as examples of rampant corruption in the medical health department, Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday said medical services are in a shambles under the BJP govt.
"The medical health department is engrossed in corruption leaving the health services paralysed. In Prayagraj, a unit has come to light where artificial platelets were being made. In Agra, a spurious medicine market has been exposed. In all, the state and its medical services have been hijacked by the drug mafia," former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav said in a statement on Thursday.
The SP national president said it was time that the kingpin of this spurious drug market was exposed before the people. "People should know who all in the government are connected to this drug mafia who is flourishing in the state with such a vast network," he said.
"The chief minister should summon and question the health minister, if there is one, about the state of affairs prevailing at hospitals and the health sector. If police are involved in this fake medicine racket, then CM (who is also the state home minister) is responsible for it," Akhilesh said.
"When a comprehensive probe is ordered, it should also be probed as to what has caused cracks in the new building of the medical college that had come up in Allipur on Kanpur – Prayagraj highway and how corruption had resulted in the new building developing leakages," he said. He said if the government continues to maintain a studied silence on these instances of corruption, people will jump to conclusions and may point fingers at those in power.
