Ludhiana: Police filed a case against five persons on charges of murder after the man they shot at the previous day died. The victim had allegedly been attacked over a property dispute. Police initially filed a case against the accused on attempt to murder charge and added the murder charge after the victim died. The accused have been identified as Sukhdev Singh, Navtej Singh, Damanpreet Singh, Iqbal Inder and Jagtar Singh, residents of Khasi Kalan village.
The complainant, Kulwinder Singh of Khasi Kalan, told the police that on Dec 11, he and his friend Bikramjeet Singh went with Sukhjit Singh to remove electric poles and wires installed on the field adjacent to the road from Khasi village to Hawas village. He added that sarpanch of their village, Karamjit Singh Grewal also came to discuss a land issue with Sukhjit Singh, when the accused came in two vehicles, one an Innova and the other a Swift, and started abusing Sukhjit Singh. The complainant said that Sukhjit Singh fired two rounds into the ground with his licensed pistol. He added that Sukhdev Singh and his son Damanpreet Singh threw Sukhjit on the ground and Navtej Singh fired two shots at his head. Kulwinder Singh said that the accused threatened Sukhjit and fled in their vehicles, after which he informed the police.
A team from Meherban police station arrived and started a probe. Police registered a case of attempt to murder and under relevant sections of the Arms Act. ACP East Sumeet Sood said that after the death of Sukhjit Singh, murder section was added. He said that the accused are on the run and efforts are on to nab them.

Varanasi police arrested Vishal Sonkar, a suspect in the murder of van driver Suresh Rajbhar, after a late-night encounter. Sonkar sustained a leg injury during the exchange of fire. Four other accomplices, including a woman, were apprehended earlier. They revealed Sonkar's plan to flee after distributing money. Rajbhar, 34, was fatally shot by his drinking companions on Thursday night.
