Bengaluru: A 40-year-old security guard sustained head injuries Thursday after a heavy metal gate crashed on him at Tulsi Tota Park, also known as Chikka Lalbagh, near Majestic.
According to BBMP sources, the injured person is Prabhakar, a resident of Srirampura area and from Tamil Nadu. He works as a security guard for a private firm, which had deployed him at the BBMP park for a few months.
The tragic incident occurred around 2.30pm. The clamps and hook of the gate were damaged a few months ago after a huge tree branch fell on it. However, BBMP had failed to fix it properly. In addition, locals claimed that the incident occurred when Prabhakar opened the gate to make way for an auto tipper, which came to collect waste in the park.
The locals rushed Prabhakar to a nearby hospital, where he received treatment as an outpatient.
BBMP special commissioner (horticulture), Preeti Gehlot told media that she has asked officials concerned to conduct an enquiry about the incident and submit a report on it.
Collapsing gates of BBMP parks and playgrounds are not new in the city. An 11-year-old boy — Niranjan, a resident of Dattatreya Temple Street in Palace Guttahalli — was killed after a gate crashed on him at Raja Shankar Park, also known as Kulla Park, off Sampige Road in Malleswaram in Sept this year.
