Kanpur: In Unnao's Bighapur locality, police arrested an impersonator photographing a motorcycle lacking a high-security registration plate near a repair workshop. The individual was attired in police attire, with his two-wheeler displaying ‘SPG' on its front and ‘police' on its rear section.
ASP Akhilesh Singh said that on Thursday morning, they noticed a motorcycle with an outdated painted number plate outside a mechanic's establishment in Bighapur. A uniformed man was photographing it when inspector Laxman Prasad Pandey from Bighapur police station spotted him. Upon being confronted, the suspect attempted to escape but was subsequently captured.
The detained individual identified himself as Shivbux from Nivajikheda village, post Vijaymau, under Sareeni police station in Raebareli district. He presented counterfeit police credentials when questioned. At the station, he admitted that an associate from Lucknow supplied him with the uniform, badge, and belt.
The ASP disclosed that the accused was operating in the area for over a month, collecting illegal payments. He previously intimidated and extracted money from motorists and merchants between Purwa and Maurawan. Authorities recovered 7,300 rupees from his unlawful collections.
Shivbux revealed that he paid 7.76 lakh rupees to an individual from Lucknow who promised him recruitment in the police force. Their meeting occurred near Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Lucknow, where he received the uniform, but the promised employment never materialised.
