Kota: The deputy superintendent of police (DSP) of Baran city, circle inspector of Baran city police station, four policemen, and the former chairman of the Baran Municipal Council were booked on Wednesday night for abetment of suicide in connection with the death of a 30-year-old man, Shubham alias Suraj Saxena (Gaud).
Family of the deceased, accompanied by state's former minister Pramod Jain Bhaya, staged a dharna alleging police harassment and demanding action against the accused.
According to the FIR lodged by the deceased's mother, DSP Omendra Singh Shekhawat, circle inspector Rambilas Meena, reader Tejesh Meena, constable Hariprasad Meena, Amarchand Meena, Krishnamurari Meena, and 4-5 others, along with former Baran Municipal Council chairman Kamal Rathore, were booked under Section 108 of the BNS Act. The police officials and others were accused of harassing Shubham and implicating him in false cases at the behest of Kamal Rathore.
Baran SP Raj Kumar Chowdhury said a case has been registered in the matter. He added, the investigation has been assigned to Kota's ASP (crime and vigilance) Beni Prasad Meena.
Notably, Shubham, a resident of Baran city allegedly died by suicide on Tuesday afternoon. His family alleged that police officials and Kamal Rathore had been harassing him and implicating him in false cases, which drove him to take the extreme step. In protest, the family members, along with other demonstrators, staged a dharna outside the mortuary at Baran District Hospital on Wednesday evening. They refused to Shubham's body for the last rites until action was taken against the accused.
The deceased had allegedly left a two-page suicide note accusing Shekhawat, Meena, and other policemen of harassment at the behest of Kamal Rathore.
Following registration of the case against the accused, the family agreed to a post-mortem, and the body was handed over to them on Wednesday night.
