Gorakhpur: Eight students of the Madhav Prasad Tripathi Medical College of Siddharthnagar have been suspended for three months on charges of indiscipline.
The suspended students, from the 2023 MBBS batch, were accused of factionalism and assaulting a fellow student after breaking into her hostel room on Wednesday night. The suspension was decided after an investigation by a nine-member disciplinary committee.
The complainant, a 2023 batch hostel resident, alleged that she was subjected to social ostracism over a dispute with her peers. The situation escalated on Wednesday night when a group of students barged into her hostel room. A female security guard and other students intervened to control the situation.
On Thursday morning, the complainant's father sent a letter to the college to lodge a complaint in this connection. After an investigation by a nine member committe, it was decided to suspend eight students, said principal of the college, prof Rajesh Mohan.
The investigation was led by assistant warden Dr Shagufta Shamil. District magistrate Dr Rajgarh Pati and CMO Dr Rajat Kumar Chaurasiya visited the college for an inspection on Thursday evening. They said that the issue is an internal matter of the college.
