Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy has urged Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari to sanction an elevated corridor between Hyderabad and Srisailam, apart from giving technical and financial approvals for the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR).
The CM also requested the Union minister to approve the detailed project report for the expansion of the Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway to six lanes.
The CM met Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and G Kishan Reddy also in the national capital on Thursday with requests for approval and sanction of various projects in Telangana. Regarding the elevated corridor, Revanth said National Highway 765, which connects Hyderabad to Srisailam, needs an elevated corridor to benefit both the states of AP and Telangana and reduce the distance between Prakasam in AP and Hyderabad by 45 km.
"Of the 187 km from Hyderabad to Srisailam, 125 km of road was already built as per the standards of NH, and the remaining 62 km is covered under Amrabad forest areas, and the govt cannot develop the four-lane road due to the forest," Revanth said. He also asked the Union minister to give both financial and technical approvals for the RRR, and the state govt already acquired 94% of the land required for the northern part of RRR, covering 159 km. The Centre already declared the northern part of RRR as NH-161 AA, he recalled.
Revanth requested Gadkari for the expansion of the Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway to six lanes, permission for a bypass (south) for Warangal, connecting the NH-63 at four places, and ropeway projects for Yadadri and Nalgonda, and Nagarjuna Sagar under Parvatha Mala project.
The CM asked the Union ministers to sanction 10 pontoon bridges on the Godavari and Krishna rivers where tribal hamlets and villages are located, apart from a transport training institute at Nalgonda where 67 acres of govt land is available.
During a meeting with another union minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, he requested the sanction of a Kendriya Vidyalaya to Telangana while thanking the Centre for sanctioning seven Navodaya Vidyalayas to the state. He said the govt should give deemed university status to educational institutions after getting an NOC from the state govt.
