Ludhiana: A major fire broke out in the 66KV power grid on Tajpur Road on Wednesday evening, snapping power supply in many areas.
The fire was so intense that flames and black smoke was visible from a distance. Once informed, fire officials reached the spot and tried controlling the flames.
Sub-fire officer Aatish Rai said they received the call in the evening and rushed to the spot. At least six fire tenders were moved at first, as the fire was big. He said flames were visible from the road and they immediately started dousing the flames.
Commuters also captured videos of the fire and then shared them on social media. Firefighters used foam and water extinguishers to douse the flames as power transformers had oil in them, and these were also stoking the blaze. The situation was yet to be brough under control when this story was filed. Power supply could be affected areas in many areas.
Officials from Punjab State Power Corporation Limited said two major transformers had been burnt in the incident and the fire broke out at the power grid on Tajpur Road. More than 15 fire tenders made the rounds to control the flames.
