Coimbatore: The grand finale of Smart India Hackathon 2024 (SIH2024), dubbed the world's largest open innovation model, began at Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology (SKCET) here on Wednesday.
SKCET is one of the 51 nodal centres chosen from across India to host the 36-hour hackathon by the education ministry and the All India Council for Technical Education for hosting the grand finale of SIH2024. This is the fifth time the college was selected for hosting the event.
As many as 120 students are competing in 20 teams to solve four problems posed by the ministry of culture, ministry of panchayati raj and the govt of National Capital Territory of Delhi.
In this 36-hour, nonstop digital product development competition, student teams from across India have to deliver innovative solutions to challenges faced by various govt departments.
Addressing the students via video conference from New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that "the talent and ingenuity of yuva shakthi was remarkable". He also lauded the hackathon, noting that it had become a platform that encourages innovation.
Inaugural ceremony of the SIH 2024 grand finale here was presided by S Malarvizhi, chairperson and managing trustee of Sri Krishna Institutions in the presence of chief guest Selvakumar Balasubramani, delivery centre head, Tata Consultancy Services, Coimbatore.
