A Kerala family of four met with a tragic accident on the L&T Bypass Road near Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The car they were traveling in collided head-on with a truck, resulting in the death of the couple and their two-month-old grandson. The daughter-in-law is critically injured and hospitalized. Police have filed a case against the truck driver.
COIMBATORE: A couple and their two-month-old grandson died on the spot after a truck collided head-on with the car in which they were travelling on L&T Bypass Road near Madukkarai in Coimbatore district on Thursday morning.
The daughter-in-law, who sustained severe injuries, was admitted to a hospital where she is battling for life. The deceased were identified as Jacob Abraham, 60, and his wife Sheeba Jacob, 55, both from Eraviperoor village near Thiruvalla in Pathanamthitta district in Kerala state, and their two-month-old grandson Aaron Jacob Thomas, from Vilakkuvettom village near Punalur in Kollam district in Kerala state.
Their daughter-in-law, Anila Thomas, 30, sustained severe injuries in the mishap.Madukkarai police said the couple were travelling with their daughter-in-law and grandson in a car from their hometown at Eraviperoor village in Pathanamthitta district in the early hours of Thursday. Jacob Abraham was driving the car, and they were heading towards Bengaluru in Karnataka state.
When the car was travelling on L&T Bypass Road near Bodipalayam Pirivu in Coimbatore district, Jacob Abraham allegedly lost control of the car and collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction at around 11am on Thursday.
The front portion of the car was completely mangled in the mishap. Jacob Abraham, his wife Sheeba, and their grandson Aaron sustained severe injuries and died on the spot.
Their daughter-in-law, Anila Thomas, sustained severe head injuries and is battling for life. Other motorists stopped their vehicles on the roadside and alerted the 108 ambulance services and Madukkarai police. The injured Anila was sent to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where she is battling for life.
Elaventhan, Sub-Inspector of Police, Madukkarai police station, and his team also reached the spot and sent the three dead bodies to the CMCH for postmortem. The police informed their counterparts about the fatal accident. The postmortem will be carried out on Friday morning.
Meanwhile, the police registered a case against the truck driver K Sakthivel, 39, of Anna Nagar at Ranganathapuram in Karur district. Further investigation is on.
