Madhubani: Work on the second phase of raising the height and strengthening the left and right embankments of the Kamala-Balan river is progressing well, according to a press release from the state water resources department (WRD). "The project, once completed, will mitigate the impact of annual floods in Madhubani and Darbhanga districts while enhancing road connectivity between them," it said.
The release added, "The construction of a metalled road on the raised embankments will serve the twin purpose of ensuring seamless connectivity and facilitating surveillance during floods." It added that the improved infrastructure will also simplify the transportation of relief and construction materials.
The WRD said the project was divided into three phases with the first phase already complete and work on the second phase underway. In this phase, work on the left embankment of the Kamala-Balan river, spanning from 66km (Fatki Kutti) to 99km (Punach), and the right embankment, covering 64km (Thengha) to 94km (Palwa), is in progress. "A total of 56km is being developed and 84% of the work is already complete," the release said.
