Gurgaon: A 100-bed girls' hostel and a teaching block will be constructed at Government Women's College in Sector 14 under the Power Grid Corporation of India's corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on Thursday between the State CSR Trust and Power Grid Corporation in the presence of CM Nayab Singh Saini.
The development works, valued at over Rs 20 crore, are aimed at enhancing educational facilities and supporting women's empowerment, said Yatindra Dwivedi, a representative of Power Grid.
"This initiative will enable girls in and around the city to pursue higher education and professional careers, creating long-term community benefits," he added.
CM Saini also lauded the collaboration, describing it as a commendable step toward social upliftment. He emphasised the importance of education in India's journey to becoming a developed nation by 2047 and credited CSR contributions for accelerating infrastructure development in the state's educational institutions.
The CM highlighted the success of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and urged corporations to expedite ongoing projects.
Similarly, Power Grid signed an MoU in Nov with the Haryana State Development and Panchayat Department under the Shiv Dham Yojana. This initiative will restore and develop crematoriums and burial grounds across 503 villages in Kurukshetra, Panipat, Karnal, and Rewari, providing essential facilities like drinking water, access roads, and covered shelters.
